If you smell the odor of Natural Gas, indoors or outdoors, DO NOT USE A PHONE IN THE AREA THAT THE ODOR IS DETECTED. Contact Southwest Texas Municipal IMMEDIATELY at: (432) 294-1529
There is a dispatcher on duty Monday through Friday from 8:00-5:00. A service person is on duty after hours, weekends and holidays. Southwest Texas Municipal Gas will respond to natural gas leaks, regardless of the location of the leak, either on a company line, or the customer's line. If it appears that escaping gas has entered a building so that a fire or explosion is imminent, use the following procedures:
1. Vacate the building without turning lights on or off, taking all occupants, including pets, with you. Be absolutely certain you can account for all occupants.
2. Use a neighbor's telephone or cell phone, away from the area affected by the gas leak, to contact Southwest Texas Municipal Gas. All electronics, especially when turned on or off, can produce a spark that can cause fire or explosion.
3. Remain outside, away from the affected area, until after the gas service worker has declared the building safe for re-entry. You cannot predict how much danger actually exists. It is better to over react to a possible gas problem than to assume that no danger exists.
